SUSTAINABILITY

TAKING CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT

With our roots in farming, caring for the environment is entrenched in our core values. Here at Cheerbrook we're working to protect our local & global environment where we can, always seeking to find new & innovative ways to make our farm shop more sustainable.
Our Produce
We love local! The best way to reduce food miles is to support local producers. Our most local being just 3 miles away - Buckley's Cheshire Honey.

Our butchery counter, deli, farm shop & cafe are supplied by over 50 local producers. Reducing the miles our food travels & the CO2 produced, cutting out the middle man & unnecessary miles.

Our Suppliers
Our fabulous local suppliers are also busy with lots of sustainability initiatives of their own. With Snugburys working with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, Mornflake reducing waste to 0.01% & Three Wrens using plastic free packaging to deliver their Cheshire distilled gin.
Packaging
Our brilliant reusable hessian bags are a great way to carry your shopping, swimming gear, or workbooks, without single use plastics.

Our 10p carrier bags are degradable.

We offer brown paper bags for our fruit & veg, or you can bring along your own re-usable veg net. We also use brown paper bags for our deli items.

In 2021 we made receipts at our tills optional, to reduce unnecessary paper waste.

Our silver foil butchery trays are suitable for recycling, as are our plastic salad containers, soup pots & ready meal trays.
Reducing Waste
With lots of deliveries each day, comes lots of packaging. We crush & send for recycling all of the surplus cardboard that comes into our farm shop.

We also collect & send for recycling all of our used cooking oil

Great food is far to good to waste! Where we have surplus stock or ingredients we donate to local charities including: Nantwich Food Bank, Chance Changing Lives & The Lighthouse Foundation.
Energy
If you take a look up next time you're on our car park you might notice our solar panels. With our terrace being such a sun trap we utilise the sunlight to power our building & feed back to the national grid.

In our staff areas we have sensor lighting, so as not to use energy unnecessarily lighting areas not in use.
Our Surroundings
We're currently working to restore the pondlife in our terrace pond. The pond currently hosts frogs as well as Charlie the duck. So far we've removed silt & cleared out overgrown plant life; we're hoping to reintroduce fish this year.
