British Sandwich Week – 5 Sandwiches We Love
To celebrate this iconic British invention and the fantastic local produce we sell, we’ve got a few ideas for old favourites and some new twists –
1. Luxury Lunch – Goat’s Cheese & Chilli Jam Toastie
Gemma from our cheese counter loves this: “I love the creamy texture of goat’s cheese which works really well with a little heat so the chilli jam is perfect.”
Cut two generous slices of bread – our Coburg Loaf works well here. Butter one side of each slice then spread one slice with Tracklements Chilli Jam. Layer the jam with slices of Goat’s Cheese or your favourite mild cheese. Heat a frying pan then place your sandwich butter side down and toast until golden. Flip over and repeat. Serve with a beetroot and rocket salad for a really yummy lunch!
2. The Sunday Sandwich – Pastrami with Honey-Mustard Mayo
Our talented new chef John loves this: “I was so impressed when I first tried this pastrami, the secret seasoning really cuts through the tender meat.”
Fold slices of our home-cured pastrami onto granary bread. Top with a dollop of Stokes Honey & Mustard Mayonnaise, add some crisp lettuce and you’ve got the perfect Sunday afternoon sandwich. This works really well using roast beef too, try topping it with crumbled blue Stilton for an extra hit of flavour.
3. Weekday Work Lunch – Sausage & Apple Sauce
Jack from our butchery counter loves this: “You can’t beat this classic combination! Especially with our handmade sausages, made using Packington free-range pork.”
Cook our award-winning free-range pork sausages, slice in half and lay over thickly sliced bread. Spoon over Cottage Delight Bramley Apple Sauce for a sandwich to make your colleagues jealous!
4. The Summer Sandwich – Avocado and Sundried Tomato
Samantha our manager loves this: “Perfect when you’re thinking about holiday season and want a lighter lunch.”
Thinly slice avocado onto a crusty seeded roll. Add sunblush tomatoes and a generous spoon of houmous from our chiller. A really tasty sunshine sarnie.
5. The Picnic Favourite – Egg & Cress
Give this classic sandwich a 5 star treatment – chop hard boiled free-range eggs (tip: chopping in a mug helps keep the eggs in one place). Add a good dollop of Stokes Real Mayonnaise, season with salt and pepper then spoon onto slices of our soft locally made bread. Top with fresh cress for a delicious picnic classic.
